Study in Austria
Austria, officially the Republic of Austria, is located at the heart of Europe, sharing borders with Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Vienna, the capital city, is renowned for its vibrant culture and high quality of life. German is the primary language spoken, making Austria a welcoming and cosmopolitan destination for international students.
Austria consistently ranks as one of the safest and wealthiest countries in the world, offering an outstanding educational environment. The country boasts approximately 70 top-tier universities with over 350,000 enrolled students—25% of whom are international students—reflecting Austria’s global appeal.
For Indian students, Austria offers an excellent alternative to Germany due to its similar, competitive education system and affordable study options.
Intakes & Academic Calendar
Austria’s universities offer two main intakes: winter (beginning in October and ending in February) and summer (starting in April and ending in July). Each academic year is divided into two semesters, with exams scheduled in February and July. To maximize your chances for admission to leading public universities, it’s recommended to start your application process by November or December of the preceding year, as seats are limited.
